Ron Paul didn’t do much better in the Straw Poll in the Minnesota Caucus on Tuesday than he has done in most states to date. However, that was never his goal. His campaign knows how the system works and they worked it well. They have been encouraging supporters to go to the caucuses and run as delegates, which is where the real power is. I participated myself, and though I was unable to win a position as a delegate, I did get elected to be an alternate.
Minnesota has 38 delegates going to the national convention, and the Ron Paul campaign believes they won enough delegates to the state Senate district/county caucuses to (hopefully) score 9 of those delegates to the national convention in September.
This is a wonderful thing! They also appear to be pursuing a strategy of winning over the delegates that have been won by candidates who drop out of the race before the national convention. It may not win him the nomination in September, but I certainly commend him for fighting hard and staying in it to the end!
