My wife and I, along with her brother, sister, and brother-in-law are all planning a trip to Hawaii in a few months. We’ve booked a cruise on Norwegian’s “Pride of Aloha”. It will take us from Honolulu, Oahu to Nawiliwili, Kauai to Hilo, Hawaii to Kona, to Kahului, Maui, and then back to Honolulu. The itinerary is here. It’s the same every week.
Our time in Honolulu and Hilo is booked already. If anyone reading has been to any of the other places in Hawaii and has a recommendation of things to do, please share it.
Also, in planning this, we figured out that if you’re going to Hawaii, the cruise is the way to go. We’re going to be in the cheapest cabins we could get on the ship, but that allows us to see four islands for roughly the same as we would have paid to stay on Oahu the whole week.
I live in Hawaii and would have to recommend taking a Hawaii cruise as you are able to view each island’s unique beauty. Too bad the cruise wasn’t a bit longer because there is so much you can do just on one island alone. On the Big Island Kona has some really nice white sand beaches. I recommend Hapuna Beach park if you want do that sort of thing. Nice Blog BTW, I’ve read a bunch of your posts, interesting stuff.
We had a blast on this trip (last January). The cruise was a great way to go because we saw so much more than just Oahu. The idea is that now if we can ever go back, we have a better idea what the different islands are like and can spend our entire trip exploring one more closely. Likely we would either go to Kauai or the Big Island on a return trip. We did see Kona for a day, and enjoyed it. I can’t recall the beach we visited there, but we also saw a coffee plantation and toured some lava-tube caves south of Kona near the southern tip of the island.
