It seems I backed myself into a “World’s Pickiest Eater” contest because of a comment I made over at Ogre’s blog. Sissy, of “And What’s Next” claims to be the pickiest eater. I will meet her challenge with a list of foods I do not eat. It is by no means exhaustive:
- First off, of her “Things I absolutely won’t eat” list, I would put everything except Ketchup and mustard on my own list. I would add:
- Popcorn
- Any kind of nut
- Any kind of cereal
- More from her list I won’t eat (we agree):
- Seafood
- Buffalo Wings (I would go broader and say “Chicken”)
- Coffee Flavored Stuff
- Banana Flavored Stuff
- Salt and Vinegar Chips
- Ranch Chips
- Corn beef
- Beans
- Guacamole
- Eggs (No exceptions)
- Foods she’ll eat that I won’t:
- Tomatoes
- Cucumbers
- Corn
- Potatoes (unless they’re in French Fry or Chip form)
- Grapes
- To be fair, things I’ll eat that she specifically mentioned she won’t (unless already mentioned):
- Cheese Cake
- Strawberry Ice Cream
- Cherry Flavored Stuff
- Sour Cream and Onion Chips
- Fruits & Vegetables that I DO like that she didn’t mention:
- I can handle the taste of carrots, I just don’t like that they need to be chewed for a month before swallowing, so I don’t eat them
- Oranges
- Most, if not all, Apples
- Blackberries (I can’t really tell them apart from raspberries)
- While in Hawaii, I tried Pineapple, and didn’t hate it
- More that I won’t eat (some will make you think I’m crazy):
- Spam
- Steak
- Chinese Food
- Rice
- Ham
- Macaroni & Cheese
- Any kind of Soup
- Anything with Peanut butter in it
- Any Hot Dish/Cassarole
- Turkey
- Any kind of bird not mentioned
- Venison
- Lamb
- Sausage
- Mushrooms
- Mint
- Grass (thanks for reminding me Ogre 😉 )
This list was by no means exhaustive
I support my darling husband’s nomination as the World’s Pickiest Eater.
I have known EZ for over 2 years. In that time, I have cooked for him once.
I made him lasagna, which he had never tried. As the fork full of lasagna neared his mouth,
his hand was really shaking. He ate one bite, said it was okay, but he wanted to be
done. EZ is starting to try new foods, so that is good.
Holy cow! How do you stay alive? Do you survive on grass? My goodness, man! 😉
I used to think I was a picky eater…
Oh wow, you reminded me of more I won’t eat! Hmmm, I may have to pull out a cook book or an everyday shopping list 🙂
I’ll post shortly 😉 Good times!
My goodness, a lot of those foods are good for you, man. One day you will get so tired of eating the same crap, you’ll
have to try these again and you’ll probably like them. I used to hate spinach and now I love it.
I’m slowly breaking out of my shell. Some people have some really weird kwirks. Mine is that I don’t really like to try new foods, and haven’t since I was 2.
Ribs are a recent addition though, and I suspect that steak will be coming fairly soon. I tried Coffee a few weeks ago and hated it though. It tasted like someone emptied an ash tray into a pot of hot water. It was real Kona coffee (in Kona, at a coffee plantation) which everyone I’ve talked to says is the best there is.
My only real concern about my pickiness is that my wife is picky too (though not nearly as bad), and we don’t want to raise kids that are picky too. But how do you get your two-year-old to eat his peas when you won’t eat peas yourself? We have at least a year before the first little-one comes along though.
It’s venison, and it sounds like strictly a physical thing, as all foods are declared clean. 🙂
There really is no rhyme or reason to what I eat and what I don’t. Much of it has to do with the mood I was in when I was 2, to be honest.
It might be a year, it might not… 😉
As for teaching your child to eat, you can take the approach my father did — you can eat what we give you, or you can eat nothing. We ate darn near everything.
My parents tried that on me when I was little. After three days of not eating, my dad caved when I asked for an orange.
