It’s a crazy time, in a crazy year. As I write this, it’s the Sunday after the 2020 election. Social media is heavily censoring Conservatives, or at least tagging posts with “fact checks.” People are generally afraid, or at least reserved, about what they post. Twitter has been my online social presence for many years, and has been the reason I have posted here very little for many years.
I’m thinking the reliance on Twitter is becoming foolish. It’s becoming more clear that those of us on the Right that have helped build that platform up to what it is now are no longer welcome there. They haven’t kicked us all off yet, but our days are numbered there.
I’ve long thought that blogging is much better than social media for more long-term thought streams and communication. Tweets and posts to social media are great little snapshot ways of interacting with the world, and they are far better than blogging for large-scale discussion with dozens or hundreds of people. (That’s not always the best thing though… do you like those huge threads filled with hundreds of trolls? I don’t.)
As long as I’m still there, and you are too, you can find me on Twitter. I’m also on Parler. I deactivated my Facebook account about two years ago, and a brief reactivation last spring for a local issue convinced me that keeping it deactivated permanently is the best way to go for me. (I really hate Facebook with a passion.)
If you’ve got a blog, my blogroll has diminished to almost nothing. Feel free to share it with me. Especially if I know you from social media, I’d be happy to add your site.
Now… if I can just find some time to tweak the site design here to dress it up a bit more. Theme designer plugins, and even the default settings as far as I can tell, have come a long way. It still takes time to push & pull and tweak to make it unique and personal.
