The local school district has been making waves with a pending decision to sell two of its buildings. Both buildings are schools. I have no idea why they are selling them, but that’s unimportant. What’s crazy is that the school board is strongly considering selling the buildings to potential buyers that are NOT the highest bidders. One of the schools has a bid for $800,000 from a Christian school that has been in the area for over a half century. The Boys and Girls club has placed a $300,000 bid on the same building. The school board wants to sell to the Boys and Girls club. I know less about the other school. I do know that an Autism center has placed the highest bid, and the board wants to sell to an Islamic center. Both the Christian school and the Autism center are completely independent entities, operating completely from private funds.
I email every member of the board and let them know, in no uncertain terms, that I will vote against any bond or levy referendums they may place on the ballot over the next few years (I didn’t tell them I don’t plan to be around for that long). Hey, if they don’t need the $500,000 that the Christian school has bid above the bid of the B&G club, then they must not need my money either.
