From K-House eNews:

Two defense department sources recently told the Washington Times that the Iraq Survey Group (ISG) has uncovered further evidence that suggests Saddam’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) could have been transported to Syria prior to the war in Iraq. The ISG is a team of 1,400 American and British experts who have been sent to Iraq to investigate its WMD program. The ISG is not scheduled to give its next official report to Congress until September, but according to news reports the ISG has interviewed witnesses who say Saddam transported prohibited materials over the border into Syria. Witness testimony revealed that Saddam routinely removed border guards from their posts on the Iraq-Syria border and replaced those guards with members of the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS). The IIS then supervised the movement of illegal shipments over the border into Syria. Defense department officials speculate that some of these shipments could have contained WMD. Sources also revealed that shipments supervised by the IIS took place in the days prior to the war. Satellite imagery has confirmed heavy traffic over the border during the same period of time.

I had heard from friends living in Israel before the war started that Saddam was shipping his WMD’s over the border to Syria, knowing that the U.S. was coming. I am fully convinced this is the case, and that it’s also why nothing significant has been found in Iraq yet.

  1. This is likely my pessimism talking, but we will not find any of Iraq’s WMDS’s, until someone sets them off in the US. Saddam may have sent them to Syria, but they are long gone by now.
