So I’m listening to the radio at work. The host of the particular show I’m listening to has a guest on who has written a book about the earnings of men and women. The host points out a logical fallacy that the guest addressed in his book that says that women earn less than men for the same work. Those wishing to push this myth throw out the figure that a woman earns 59 or 76 for every $1.00 that men earn. The simple observation that blows that myth out of the water is that men have jobs. Why would anyone hire a man when they could hire a woman to do the same job for 25% less pay? Where the real discrepancy lies in pay between men and women is that men, typically, work longer hours and more jobs than their female counterparts.
Of course, there are always exceptions to every rule. My wife works, on average, 10-20 more hours per week than I do, and earns quite a bit more money than I do. I know of a few couples that live mostly, or completely, off of the incomes of the wife.
